A coalition of Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars and the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has issued a strong condemnation regarding the marginalization of Southern Muslims in public service.

During a press conference in Ibadan, the group highlighted the ongoing inequities and violations of constitutional rights faced by the Southern Muslim community, despite their backing of the current administration.

Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyatullahi, President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, and Sheikh Abdurrasheed Mayaleeke, Chairman of the Concerned Yoruba Muslim Scholars, voiced urgent concerns about the treatment of Southern Muslims in government positions.

They noted a troubling trend of disenfranchisement since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office, pointing out that more than 80% of regional appointments are held by Southern Christians, many of whom had opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

According to report from THE GUARDIAN, The Group stated,

“How will any reasonable person fairly explain the rationale behind more than 80 percent from the South West occupied by the Southern Christians including those who had fought tooth and nail against the so called Muslim/Muslim ticket! It is not only disappointing but also very annoying.”
