In a recent video on YouTube From 14:42, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has voiced strong concerns over the shifting loyalty and moral decay within both religious and political leadership in Nigeria. Speaking during a recent gathering, Wike expressed disappointment in how individuals, particularly religious figures, alter their positions and attitudes simply because of changes in political power.
He lamented that many who once supported and prayed for him have distanced themselves since he left office, suggesting that their loyalty was never rooted in genuine belief or principle. He noted that this trend of abandoning people based on political influence is a major flaw in the Nigerian system, calling it a reflection of deep moral compromise driven by power and material gain.
Reflecting on his support for President Bola Tinubu, Wike remarked that his political stance had drawn harsh criticism and even hostility from those who once allied with him. He questioned the sincerity of such individuals, pointing out the contradiction in their actions compared to their professed values.
According to him, “All of you look at me very well. They made you second-class, third-class—you never had it. Thank you for inviting me now. Because I don’t know who will be praying for me. I’m not sure what I see. How can men of God change because of power—simply because someone is no longer in office? That’s the problem we have in this country. I pray that this, your 70th birthday, will bring a change of heart. Let there be a new beginning. Let people live the life they are supposed to live. Not because of money—wanted to kill me because I supported Tinubu. What’s going on now? What’s going on?”
