According to Al Jazeera, on August 25, 2025, Issam al-Mutawakil, spokesperson for the Houthi-controlled state oil company, has publicly responded to recent Israeli attacks on a fuel station in Sanaa.
In a video posted on Facebook, filmed in front of the damaged fuel station, al-Mutawakil delivered a defiant message minimizing the impact of the strikes.
Expressing surprise at the scale of the Israeli operation, he said, “We were surprised by the fact that such a large number of Israeli jets flew a long distance to target a civilian fuel station.”
He interpreted the attack as a sign of “Israel’s confusion and its search for smoke rising in the skies to claim victory.”
Al-Mutawakil also questioned the strategic gain of the Israeli assault, stating, “We confirm that the amount of fuel consumed by enemy aircraft to bomb the fuel station is more than the amount of fuel inside the targeted station’s tanks.”
This comment aimed to highlight the perceived disproportion between the effort of the attack and its actual damage.
Despite the damage to infrastructure, al-Mutawakil reassured supporters that the Houthis remain steadfast in their position and will not waver in their support for the Palestinians.
“We will not be deterred from supporting Palestinians,” he affirmed in the video.
Furthermore, he claimed that the supply situation remains stable in the face of the attack, adding, “The supply situation is stable and we have preparations for the battle.”
This suggests that the Houthis are attempting to project strength and resilience amid ongoing conflict and military pressure.
The Israeli strikes targeted critical facilities in Yemen’s capital, aiming to weaken Houthi capabilities.
However, through this message, the Houthis aim to reassure their base and counter the perception of significant damage.
The ongoing conflict in the region remains tense, with both sides continuing to assert their positions through military actions and public statements.
