The Federal House of Representatives has drafted a bill for the establishment of Bola Ahmed Tinubu University. The bill was sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, and eight others, and has been passed for first reading.
As reported by Vanguard on Saturday, October 12, 2023, the House of Representatives revealed that the course that will be studied in the proposed university is Nigerian Languages and Cultures.
The bill reads in part: “The university shall encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction, the opportunity of acquiring a higher education in Nigerian languages and cultures”.
Furthermore, the House disclosed that the proposed Bola Ahmed Tinubu University will develop and offer academic and professional programmes leading to the award of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate research and higher degrees with emphasis on planning, adaptive, developmental and productive skills.
The bill highlights that the president will visit the university at least once in every five years or send a representative to do so. the university will make all necessary arrangements to ensure the visitation is successful.
The bill also captured that the president will have the power to remove the council members of the university, apart from the pro-chancellor and vice chancellor.
