Honourable Obi Aguocha has questioned the fairness of the ongoing case between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Federal Government. Speaking to newsmen after attending the court session, Aguocha explained that several motions filed by Kanu’s legal team were accepted by the court but were not challenged by the prosecution. He said it was surprising that despite these motions, efforts were still being made to push ahead with the trial.
In a video shared by SYMFONI TV from 2:08, according to him, Kanu has repeatedly asked one simple question, under what law is he being tried? Aguocha pointed out that neither the judge nor the prosecution has provided an answer to that question. He described the situation as worrying because the foundation of any fair trial is clarity about the law under which a person is being charged.
He also revealed that the judge has set November 20 as the date to deliver a ruling on some important issues, including whether the court has the right to continue with the case. Aguocha argued that it makes little sense to continue a trial when such jurisdictional questions are still unresolved.
He suggested that the trial appears to be more political than criminal, saying it reflects deeper issues beyond what is presented in court.
In his words, “Mazi Kanu has been asking a simple question, on what law is he being tried? Neither the Judge nor the prosecution has answered that.” View, More,
