According to Daily Post, Anambra State has been grappling with a surge in criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, fraud, and drug-related offenses. In response, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has intensified efforts to restore safety and order across the state—but his strategy goes beyond conventional policing.

Governor Soludo is turning attention to certain traditional beliefs and practices which, he says, are being manipulated by criminals to shield themselves from justice. He raised concerns about the role of some native doctors who allegedly offer supposed spiritual protection to wrongdoers, giving them confidence to commit crimes without fear of consequences.

“There was a native doctor we apprehended,” the governor said during a recent address to party supporters. “His own son works as a hotel waiter in Nnewi. If his powers really worked, wouldn’t his son be wealthy already?”

He also cited the case of a man who claimed to be a digital content creator but was allegedly using his influence to mislead young people in the state before his arrest. These instances, according to Soludo, highlight how some individuals are using deceptive means to promote criminal behavior.

Soludo emphasized that his administration would no longer tolerate the misuse of cultural and spiritual practices for illegal activities. He made it clear that while he respects tradition, the state cannot allow any form of belief system to be weaponized against public safety.

“If there were truly any charm that could make someone rich overnight, I would have used it too—I need money like everyone else,” the governor said pointedly, drawing laughter from the crowd while underscoring his message.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions across Anambra. While many residents support his position and see it as a progressive step toward tackling insecurity, others feel his comments risk undermining cultural heritage.

Still, Governor Soludo remains firm in his resolve. He continues to push for a safer Anambra, insisting that both law enforcement and societal reform are necessary to overcome the current wave of insecurity.
