Alwan Hassan, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not lose the 2027 presidential election, citing what he described as major achievements in education, health, and leadership. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Hassan defended Tinubu’s record and dismissed the chances of opposition figures, particularly Peter Obi, posing a serious challenge.
When asked about the president’s political record and whether he could face defeat in 2027, Hassan was emphatic. “And he will never lose an election.”
When the interviewer from 13:49 reminded him that he is not God, Hassan replied:“Yes, but I’m predicting. I can predict. Okay. With the facts on ground, he won’t lose an election. Because of course, he is going to win.”
He then challenged the strength of opposition candidates: “Who else do you think would defeat Asiwaju in 2027? Who? Peter Obi? That was on your program, saying he wants the North to support him and trust him.”
Criticizing Obi’s past remarks and business interests, Hassan said: “In the same program, he’s celebrating building breweries in Anambra State and being the biggest importer of alcohol. And he wants the North to vote for him? We’ll vote for a president that will import alcohol in the North?”
Hassan went further, mocking political figures perceived to be financially dependent on their spouses: “Or is it those ones that are saying their wives are taking care of them? We cannot hand over this country to people, to men, that are being fed by their wives. We want a man that is a man of his house. We want a man that is in charge of his house.”
He added: “No, no, no. We will not give a country, hand over a country to a man that is being fed by a wife. No! To a man that is being fed by his wife. That’s what I’m saying.”
When asked whether being supported by an entrepreneurial spouse was a crime, Hassan dismissed the criticism: “But these are the things I’m saying. Let’s not dwell on that.”
He then shifted focus to what he described as President Tinubu’s developmental strides: “Even in the education and health, the president has done a lot. Are we not talking about NELFUND? Almost 400,000 university students collecting loans, celebrating on TV.”
Highlighting further achievements, Hassan said: “Have we spoken about the cancer center in the health ministry that has been built by this president? Six cancer centers in the six geopolitical zones—one in Katsina. Why don’t you celebrate that?”
He added: “Can’t we celebrate the good things or the good development that this government has brought? Over 400,000 students now have taken a NELFUND loan and they’re paying school fees.”
Hassan concluded with a claim about the scope of the student loan initiative: “People that are at the 400 level, 500 level university can apply for tuitions they had paid when they started and NELFUND will pay back. We embossed them. Have we ever had that in history? State, federal government, secondary schools—free. Technical schools—free.”
