Rivers State lawmaker Martins Amaewhule has taken a swipe at Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of using religion as a political shield.
According to Amaewhule, Fubara often approaches churches, kneels before the congregation, and requests prayers while quoting Bible verses, including Philippians Chapter 3.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV from 27:09, he stated, “He walks up to the church and kneels down and asks them to pray for him.
He will start quoting Philippians Chapter 3 and other verses of the Bible,” Amaewhule said, suggesting that the governor’s religious displays are more about political optics than genuine faith.
Amaewhule’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where Fubara has faced criticism from opposition lawmakers.
His comments highlight concerns that religion is being used to sway public sentiment rather than address pressing governance issues.
Supporters of the governor, however, argue that Fubara’s faith should not be questioned, emphasizing that seeking prayers is a personal and spiritual decision.
They maintain that his leadership should be judged by his policies and performance rather than his public expressions of faith.
