Rivers State Commissioner for Information Joseph Johnson has revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara attempted to schedule a budget presentation with the State House of Assembly, but his communication was rejected.

“Just last Friday, March 14, 2025, Governor Siminalayi Fubara stuck with his resolve to do the needful. He sent another letter personally signed by him to the House Speaker, Right Honorable Martins Amaewhule,” Johnson stated during a press briefing covered by Symfoni TV from 8:57.

He explained further that the letter notified the Speaker “of the governor’s plan to come to represent the 2025 budget to them on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, by 10:00 a.m or any other day that may be convenient to the House, in compliance with the Supreme Court verdict.

According to him, both government officials and a hired courier company attempted to deliver the letter but were unsuccessful. “Regrettably, the State House of Assembly refused to receive and acknowledge the letter. A courier company, which was engaged to deliver the letter, also returned it with the report that it was rejected at the assembly quarters, where the members currently sit,” he explained.

The Commissioner defended the Governor against accusations from the Assembly’s Information Committee Chairman Enemi George, who claimed Fubara was “frustrating the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment.”

He highlighted that after multiple failed delivery attempts, the Rivers State Government published the Governor’s letter in two national newspapers, The Nation and The Guardian, to create a public record of the communication.
