According to Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central, a great number of Nigerians were despondent after placing their expectations in the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani remarked in an interview with PUNCH that Nigerians had earlier believed that Buhari could easily solve all of their problems. Sani’s statement was made in that context. However, these altered once Buhari took power, and even Buhari admitted that administering Nigeria was more challenging than he had imagined. He emphasised that this was the case. The fact that this occurred, according to him, was evidence that Buhari may have misjudged the seriousness of the problem or believed that he was capable of handling it effectively.
What he had to say,
The people of Nigeria were led to believe that Buhari possessed a miraculous solution to the problems that the country was facing, and their expectations were inflated to an unhealthy degree. It was believed by many around him that he was in possession of the wand of magic prior to his rise to power. It has been mentioned by him in the past that the work of administering Nigeria is not an easy responsibility. Either he failed to give the country the credit it deserved or he believed that he was capable of resolving all of the issues that it faced.
