According to the report from the Daily Post, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has offered a profound insight into the challenges of combating modern terrorist threats, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of contemporary conflict.
“No country should allow this kind of thing to commence,” Musa stated in a report by the Daily Post, highlighting the critical importance of preventing terrorist ideologies from taking root.
Contrasting contemporary conflicts with traditional warfare, the general explained, “Before now, when we had the conventional kind of warfare, you are fighting a country. You know you’re fighting for territory. You want to achieve something.”
Musa detailed the psychological complexity of modern terrorism, noting, “Now you are fighting with people that have nothing to lose. It is an ideology they have in their minds. They believe they are right and you are wrong.”
He described the radical mindset that makes counter-terrorism exceptionally challenging: “He believes if he kills you, he’s getting a blessing. If you kill him, he’s going to heaven. That’s absolutely nothing to lose.”
The Defence Chief concluded with a critical operational challenge: “That makes it very, very difficult, and it’s not written on their foreheads. So, how do you identify who is who?”
The comments provide a stark assessment of the psychological and strategic complexities facing modern military and security forces in combating ideologically driven terrorism.
