Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has detailed a horrific incident of ritual killing and community-driven retribution that lays bare the growing desperation and violent tendencies plaguing Nigerian communities.

Narrating the gruesome events on his X handle, Edafe described a macabre sequence of criminal action and summary execution that occurred in the Isoko South Local Government Area. A young man, whose identity remains undisclosed, committed an unthinkable act of violence by entering a bush, beheading a woman, and subsequently transporting her severed head to his residence.

The community’s response was swift and brutal. Upon discovering the woman’s head in the perpetrator’s house, local residents immediately executed their own form of justice, burning the suspect to death.

Edafe contextualized this incident as part of a broader, deeply troubling trend. “This is the third ritual killing in the state in less than two months,” he noted, highlighting the alarming frequency of such crimes. The police spokesperson condemned what he termed the “get rich quick syndrome,” suggesting these killings stem from a pervasive societal desperation for rapid wealth acquisition.

The statement goes beyond a simple crime report. It serves as a scathing indictment of societal moral decay. “Many things are wrong in the country,” Edafe emphasized, pointing to systemic issues that drive individuals to commit such heinous acts.

The Delta State Police Command has been actively combating various criminal elements, including ritual killers, kidnappers, and cultists.
