Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, addressed how quickly Nigerians forget past events. He pointed out that many citizens are holding the Tinubu administration responsible for current issues while overlooking the fuel shortages that were prevalent when the President took office.
According to report from DAILY POST, Onanuga acknowledged the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidies but highlighted that the government is working diligently to improve the economy.
He remarked that many Nigerians tend to forget the starting point of the country’s challenges, often blaming President Tinubu exclusively.
He also recalled the fuel crisis in May 2023, a significant obstacle prior to the elections.
Onanuga emphasized the importance of remembering past events, noting that an understanding of history is essential for fairly assessing the current situation.
He said,
“Many Nigerians we sometimes exhibit the problem of lack of memory. We have very short memory, we forget where we started from and we just start blaming President Tinubu for all the problems that Nigeria is going through. In 2023, when Tinubu took over the government, there were fuel shortages in this country.”
