In a candid interview on Channels TV, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose acknowledged the right to protest but cautioned against allowing malicious actors to hijack the demonstrations and manipulate the narrative.
He pointed out the widespread perception that the protests are an attempt to overthrow the government, akin to a coup. Fayose emphasized the need for vigilance and awareness of the potential consequences of such perceptions, as no government would tolerate actions that threaten its stability and authority.
He stated that while people have the right to protest, they must ensure that these protests are not hijacked by those who want to give the impression of attempting to overthrow the government. The current perception is that the protests are a coup attempt, with some suggesting they aim to incite military intervention. Fayose warned that no government would allow actions that threaten its stability.
In his own words, he remarked, “People can go to street but don’t let people that will hijack this protest turn it to where we ple will now imagine you want to take government from Asiwaju. The perception now is that this protest is a coup. That is the perception everywhere. They are giving an impression that they want to use this coup for military to come in. We have ears to the ground. No government will allow them to come and truncate His own government.”….Sêe_Morē
