British-Israeli free hostage Emily Damari, recounted how the Palestinian nationalist Sunni Islamist political organization, which is known as Hamas, mocked, starved, and psychologically broke her so much so that she once grabbed a gun and begged to be killed rather than taken to Gaza.
According to a report by the Jerusalem Post on Saturday, 26 July 2025, one of the free Israeli hostages, Emily Damarie, during an interview revealed that one of her captors treated her so cruelly that she considered suicide, stating, “They were the worst people. The worst family. They would make fun of us and laugh at us. They would tell us: ‘Nobody cares about you.’ They would hide food from us and tell us we were never leaving Gaza.”
She also explained that she had made a suicide pact with Romi Gonen, the pair had decided to either escape or end their lives to escape the cruelty, recounting how she grabbed the guard who had demonstrated the least cruelty and told him that if they were not moved, the resistance group was going to have two dead hostages.
Emily Damari went further to recounted that when the Hamas fighters abducted her from her home, along with her friend Gali Berman, a terrorist shot off several of her fingers while killing her dog Choocha, narrating that when the terrorist told her he would take her to the hospital, she understood that the hospital was not going to be an Israeli hospital, so she told him that she did not wanted to be kidnapped, she would prefer to die.
She also revealed that she took the gun of her captor, put it to her head and said he should shoot her, explaining that she only went quietly once the terrorist placed a gun to her friend’s head, that was when was taken to Al-Shifa Hospital, and told by terrorists she was more valuable to them alive than dead.
