According to Al Jazeera, on August 17, 2025, the al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, announced a series of attacks targeting Israeli soldiers and military vehicles in southern Gaza.

In a statement posted on Telegram, the group claimed responsibility for bombing a gathering of Israeli troops and vehicles north of Khan Younis city, a key area in the ongoing conflict.

The group stated they fired a “number of rockets in response to the Zionist enemy’s crimes against our people,” targeting the Be’eri and Shawqida settlements near the Gaza border.

The al-Quds Brigades also reported a separate operation in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, where fighters destroyed an Israeli military vehicle using an explosive device during an army incursion into Hassan al-Banna square.

This attack, carried out on Sunday, underscores the group’s continued resistance against Israeli military operations in the densely populated Gaza Strip, where clashes have escalated in recent weeks.

The Israeli army confirmed it intercepted one rocket heading toward an open area in Israeli territory, reporting no casualties or significant damage.

Israel has not yet commented on the reported destruction of the military vehicle, but such incidents typically prompt retaliatory airstrikes or ground operations aimed at neutralizing militant threats.

The al-Quds Brigades’ actions reflect a broader strategy by Palestinian armed groups to challenge Israel’s military presence in Gaza, particularly in response to ongoing operations that have caused significant civilian hardship.

The attacks come amid heightened tensions, with Gaza facing a humanitarian crisis marked by food shortages, displacement, and infrastructure damage.

International calls for de-escalation continue, with organizations like the United Nations urging restraint to prevent further loss of life.
