According to a report by Sky News, on October 7, 2025, Eli Sharabi, an Israeli man held captive by Hamas for nearly 500 days, has revealed the traumatic experience he endured during his prolonged captivity in Gaza.

Speaking to The World With Yalda Hakim, Sharabi recounted being seized on October 7, 2023, as militants stormed his home.

Sharabi said his family was alarmed by an early morning alarm and fled to a safe room, hoping to avoid harm.

However, Hamas militants forcibly entered and began shooting inside, demanding they open the door. Sharabi insisted on guarantees for the safety of his wife and two daughters before complying.

He was then taken deeper into Gaza, where a hostile crowd of civilians nearly lynched him. Initially, he was imprisoned in a Palestinian family’s home, bound first with ropes and then an iron chain.

After 52 days, Sharabi was moved to tunnels located beneath a mosque, plunging about 50 meters underground.

He described the conditions as horrific, with no running water and access to showers only once every six weeks using cold water buckets. Daily humiliation, physical abuse, and severe hunger marked his time in captivity.

Sharabi was ultimately released after 491 days, but the relief was overshadowed by the devastating news that his wife and daughters had been killed shortly after his kidnapping.
