Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric, has stated that the Fulani ethnic group continues to face widespread discrimination and mistreatment across Nigeria, especially in the wake of violent incidents linked to herdsmen.
In a video shared by VOICE OF THE PEOPLE TV from 32:41, Sheikh Gumi expressed concern that Fulani individuals are often subjected to harsh treatment and unfair accusations. He said that when a Fulani person is arrested, they are frequently labeled as collaborators or traitors, even without evidence. He emphasized that this pattern of scapegoating only deepens the divide and fuels further unrest.
Gumi said the Fulani community has long been marginalized and misunderstood, and he believes that addressing the root causes of their grievances, such as poverty, exclusion, and lack of justice, is essential to achieving lasting peace. He warned that continued hostility toward the group could escalate tensions and hinder national unity.
The cleric has consistently advocated for dialogue and reconciliation as a path to stability. He maintains that labeling an entire ethnic group as violent or criminal is not only unjust but also counterproductive.
His words,
“Fulani suffer more than anybody even in Nigeria, because when they catch a Fulani man in fact, they are mercilessly with him. They say ‘you are the one conniving with other Nigerians to infringe on our rights.” View, More,
