According to a report by The Guardian, controversial Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has dismissed reports of Christian genocide in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, claiming the narrative is being manipulated to stir international sympathy and religious anger.

According to him, he was informed by a medical professional that some Christian groups were allegedly organizing fake funerals for victims who never existed.

He wrote: “A Doctor wrote me: Do you know that some Middle Belt Christian groups are now staging fake massillings? They are burying empty coffins and recording the process as if real victims were killed, just to push the narrative of a Christian genocide.”

In his words, the purported action represents despicable desperation, describing, what he views as an attempt to manipulate information “just to provoke hatred and international sympathy,” as a disgrace.

Gumi said such actions were proof of deliberate misinformation being used to divide Nigerians along religious lines. He accused foreign powers of encouraging these falsehoods to discredit Islam and undermine peace efforts in the country.

The cleric also responded to critics who accused him of fleeing Nigeria following Trump’s alleged plan to target terrorist groups.

Gumi insisted he did not leave the country out of fear, stressing that his visit to Turkey was pre-scheduled.

He explained that he obtained his visa long before Trump’s comments, adding, “Trump has no power over us.”

Describing the genocide claim as “pure propaganda,” Gumi argued that these stories have become tools to attack Islam and justify Islamophobic sentiments in the West.

He urged Nigerians to reject religious manipulation and focus on truth, unity, and peace. “We must stop being pawns in their game,” he added. View, More,
