According to a report by Vanguard on Monday, July 14, 2025, the governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has launched a scathing critique of his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, branding his administration as the most damaging in the state’s history.
The attack followed comments made by Aregbesola on Sunday during a meeting with supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osogbo, where he expressed confidence that the ADC would unseat the Adeleke-led government in the 2026 election.
Reacting through a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke dismissed Aregbesola’s remarks as unfounded and provocative.
He accused the former governor of leaving behind a trail of economic hardship, administrative failure, and neglect of workers’ welfare.
Adeleke took aim at Aregbesola’s record, particularly the controversial half salary policy imposed on civil servants, the alleged mismanagement of contributory pension funds, and the withholding of workers’ cooperative deductions.
He described the former governor’s tenure as a period of widespread disillusionment and financial instability.
According to the governor, his administration has been working to reverse the damage, having already paid 28 months of outstanding half salaries and cleared nearly N60 billion in pension debt inherited from the previous government.
He emphasized that his priority remains rebuilding trust with workers, restoring fiscal discipline, and revitalizing public institutions.
Governor Adeleke also accused Aregbesola of plunging Osun State into unsustainable debt, the effects of which, he said, continue to hinder the state’s development efforts.
He warned that the people of Osun would not forget the hardship experienced during
Aregbesola’s tenure and would resist any attempt to return to that era.
“No voter in Osun is ready for a return to the evil days. The people will punish the former Governor and his party for willfully inflicting pain on them,” Adeleke declared.
