According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday September 9, 2925, The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has positioned himself as the most intellectually prepared aspirant for the November 8, 2025 governorship election, declaring that none of his rivals possess his level of academic attainment.
Speaking during a gathering on Monday, Chukwuma addressed recent remarks made by the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who had mocked his candidacy. He dismissed the governor’s comments, saying they amounted to “comic relief” rather than meaningful contributions to governance.
“Education is not about parading a single degree in one field of study. If it becomes necessary, I will gladly present my chain of degrees,” Chukwuma said confidently. He stressed that he was not among those Soludo often taunts for poor education, insisting that “Ndi Anambra deserve accountability, not theatrics.”
The YPP candidate accused Soludo of failing to meet the expectations of the people after nearly three years in office. According to him, the governor’s resort to jokes and ridicule shows a lack of seriousness in addressing the urgent issues troubling Anambra State.
“The time for comedy is over,” Chukwuma charged. “Insecurity, crumbling infrastructure and dwindling social life stare Ndi Anambra in the face. The people are not entertained by jokes when lives and livelihoods are at stake.”
Chukwuma, who is 47 years old, described himself as “the quality alternative” in the upcoming election, noting that his leadership would be defined by competence, vision and integrity. He argued that the governor’s fixation on his age was a deliberate attempt to distract voters from the failings of his administration.
“Governor Soludo, who came into office with the weight of academic expectations, has sadly become a disappointment,” Chukwuma remarked. He emphasized that rather than showcasing real achievements as the 2025 governorship race draws closer, the governor has chosen to spend time ridiculing political opponents. “Rather than showcasing tangible achievements as the 2025 elections approach, he prefers to ridicule hardworking citizens. That is not governance.”
The YPP candidate’s comments underscore his strategy of drawing a sharp contrast between himself and the incumbent. While Soludo had risen to office celebrated as a technocrat and scholar, Chukwuma contends that those academic credentials have not translated into effective leadership for Ndi Anambra. He reiterated that governance should not be reduced to entertainment, warning that citizens are more concerned with security, infrastructure and economic revival than with political banter.
Chukwuma’s remarks also serve as an appeal to voters who may feel let down by Soludo’s stewardship. By branding himself as academically superior and better equipped to confront the challenges facing the state, he is seeking to reposition YPP as a credible alternative to the ruling party.
As the governorship election approaches, the contest between Soludo and Chukwuma appears set to sharpen, particularly as both men emphasize their academic standing. Yet, for Chukwuma, the core of his campaign message remains that Anambra needs less comedy and more competent governance.
