Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has slammed Canada for denying visas to the country’s top military chiefs, including Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa. The denial prevented them from attending an event honoring war veterans in Canada.
According to PUNCH Ribadu’s strong reaction came during the maiden annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies in Abuja. He commended Musa for publicly addressing the issue, saying, “Thank you for the courage to say Canada denied you visas. They can go to hell”.
Musa had revealed that he and his team were scheduled to attend the event in Canada, but half of the delegation was denied visas. He described the incident as “disappointing” but emphasized that it served as a reminder for Nigeria to stand strong as a nation.
Ribadu’s reaction was not only a show of support for Musa but also a reflection of the Nigerian government’s frustration with the Canadian government’s decision. The NSA emphasized the need for Nigeria to focus on strengthening itself as a nation, rather than relying on other countries.
The incident has sparked a diplomatic row between Nigeria and Canada, with many Nigerians expressing outrage and disappointment on social media. The Canadian government has not publicly commented on the visa denial, but the incident is likely to strain relations between the two countries.
