Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to truly understand and embody the concept of sacrifice before advising Nigerians to do the same. Ezekwesili, known for her outspoken views on governance and transparency, made these comments in a video released by News Central TV, where she discussed a range of issues impacting Nigeria, including privatization, governance, and the state of the judiciary.

Ezekwesili expressed her concerns about the privatization process, particularly within the energy sector. She described the process as being hijacked by political interests, suggesting that key sectors like energy had been manipulated by powerful political figures rather than being handled transparently and for the benefit of the public. Her criticism focused on how privatization has often led to the enrichment of political elites at the expense of national development.

As a strong proponent of accountability and good governance, Ezekwesili argued that the privatization efforts in Nigeria had failed to meet the expectations of the people. She contended that political maneuvering had undermined the true potential of such initiatives, leaving ordinary Nigerians to suffer while a few powerful individuals benefited.

In addition to her criticism of privatization, Ezekwesili also addressed the state of Nigeria’s judiciary. She expressed frustration over the political manipulation of the judicial system, particularly in the aftermath of the 2023 elections. According to her, the judicial system had been captured by political forces, making it difficult for citizens to trust in the fairness and impartiality of the legal process. She urged Nigerians to recognize the systemic issues that undermine the country’s progress and to take action to address them.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Ezekwesili warned that the political landscape was likely to be riddled with similar issues as those that emerged during the 2023 elections. She alluded to the manipulative tactics that had been employed during the previous election cycle and the subsequent legal battles that followed.

Ezekwesili called on Nigerians to recognize the value of their country and to work towards saving it from the political dysfunction that has hindered its growth. Her impassioned plea highlighted the urgency of addressing the country’s governance issues and ensuring that those in power are held accountable for their actions. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, she urged the Nigerian public to demand better leadership and a more transparent, effective political system.

She said, “as we go into 2027, we know the kind of shenanigans that happened in the 2023 elections, and the next thing that they said is go to court. They told you to go to court because they have taken captive the whole judicial system. The citizens of Nigeria have to see that this country is worth saving.”
