In a Facebook video broadcast, Asari Dokubo, a prominent chieftain of the Kalabari people, voiced his frustration over what he described as the undue reverence many Nigerians accord to Peter Obi.
He argued that, were he to govern Anambra State, he would transform it completely in a single term and would not even reside in the government house. Dokubo criticized Obi’s eight-year tenure as governor, claiming that Anambra’s development is negligible compared to the dramatic transformation witnessed in many parts of China.
Continuing his remarks, Dokubo recalled China’s once-underdeveloped state and contrasted it with the country’s present-day infrastructure—especially its modern airports and roads. He questioned why Nigerians continue to rally behind Peter Obi without holding him accountable for his performance during his time in office.
According to him, “If you see their airports, if you see their roads—this is China that was so backward. And then somebody is talking about Peter Obi, somebody is talking about this character. Peter Obi was governor of Anambra State—what did he do for 8 years? What did he do for 8 years? These are the questions. It is not when you are tribalistic. Compare Peter Obi’s Anambra, which is a gold mine… Give me Anambra, and if in one year I do not change Anambra, I will not take a salary, I will not live in their government house—I will live in my car.”
