The National Assembly rejected former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination in 2023. A political analyst Emmanuel Osemeka has accused the recently resigned APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje of a poor management of the situation.
Osemeka faulted Ganduje’s leadership approach during an interview with Daily Trust from 10:51, stating: “There are a lot of things that Ganduje has not done, and there are a lot of things he has done that he ought not to have done. He left the management of the party and began to play core politics where it was not necessary, and the party suffered.”
The analyst specifically highlighted that Ganduje failed to manage the fallout from El-Rufai’s rejection. “One of the things he failed to do was also to manage the outcomes of the likes of El-Rufai. When El-Rufai was disgraced, he ought to have reached out and bring him back. And then find way to calm nerves, but he failed in those responsibilities. People will say, ‘Oh, Tinubu should have intervened.’ No, Tinubu cannot do everything; there are things the President will do, there are things the political parties will do. And that’s why you see that many people are angry with the National Working Committee of the PDP today because they have shown zero capacity to lead.”
Weeks before his resignation, Dr. Ganduje dismissed the coalition former Vice President Atiku Abubakar formed against President Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid. Ganduje claimed the APC remained unconcerned because the coalition lacked viability and could not remove President Tinubu from power.
However, reports suggest Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso plans to align with President Tinubu, potentially forcing Ganduje’s exit due to his long-standing rivalry with his former political mentor.
APC leaders now speculate that Kwankwaso could replace Ganduje as party chairman. Party insiders believe Ganduje occupied a position that rightfully belongs to the North Central geopolitical zone, suggesting his departure might restore regional balance to the party’s leadership structure.
