According to the report from SYMFONI TV, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reiterated that he will not interfere with the functioning of the Rivers State House of Assembly. This statement comes amid a growing political crisis between him and the current governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The tension between Wike and Fubara dates back to their fallout in 2023, following which a power struggle ensued within the Rivers State House of Assembly. Twenty-seven lawmakers aligned with Wike have clashed with Fubara, exacerbating the conflict. The situation reached a boiling point in October 2023 when the assembly complex was set ablaze, an incident that was linked to rumors of impeachment.

On March 12, 2025, the pro-Wike faction, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, barred Governor Fubara from entering the assembly. This move blocked his attempt to re-present the 2025 budget, as mandated by a Supreme Court ruling.

In a statement addressing the situation, Wike said, “Mr. President, invite all of us, invite all of us for peace. After that day, we, the leaders, told the assembly to go back and withdraw that impeachment notice. Since Mr. President has called for peace, instead of them doing their part, they instigated many actions using it as an excuse. It’s okay. When they wanted the appeal, they were now saying, Last Hope. Today, we won, and the judgment day has come. Oh, Judgment Day is called Judgment Day.”

Despite the ongoing conflict, Wike assured the public that he would not obstruct the activities of the assembly. His comments are seen as an attempt to clarify his stance on the matter, especially as political tensions continue to simmer in the state.
