Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart Chief Bode George has revealed key details behind the souring relationship between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike.
During a chat on Nigeria Info FM, George described how a lack of proper communication and differing leadership expectations sparked the conflict. He stated that Governor Fubara felt betrayed by Wike’s repeated public criticisms, which came despite their former close ties.
According to George, Fubara disclosed to the PDP’s Board of Trustees that Wike often lashed out at him in the media instead of addressing concerns privately.
“Fubara said every time he made important decisions, he hoped Wike would reach out to him and express his views personally,” George said. “But instead, Wike chose to criticize him harshly on radio and TV.”
The public rebukes, George noted, deeply unsettled Fubara, who felt he was being treated as a subordinate. The governor reportedly stressed that he was fully capable of managing the affairs of the state and expected mutual respect.
With Wike now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, his feud with Fubara remains a significant source of political friction in Rivers State. Although there have been efforts to resolve the dispute, the power struggle continues to cast a long shadow over the state’s political dynamics.
