Ann Kio Briggs, a human rights activist has spoken about the political crisis in Rivers State.
In a live coverage by Symfoni TV from 1:10, Briggs said Governor Siminalayi Fubara, on national television, stated that he is willing to go to great lengths for peace in Rivers State. She said she was displeased when Fubara disclosed that he even “knelt down” to beg for peace in the state.
Briggs said Fubara mentioned that he is eager to restore peace in the state but he emphasized there are limits to what he would sacrifice. She said Fubara made it clear that he would not go as far as giving up his “liver or kidney” for peace. Instead, if pushed too far, he would rather leave the position of governor.
In Briggs’s words: “Fubara said he will do anything for peace on national TV and he had even knelt down which I am offended by. But it is okay because that is as far as he said he is prepared to go for peace. He said he is not prepared to give his liver or his kidney, instead he will go back to his wife. It is not that he left her, but what he means is that instead he will leave their governance for them and I think I agree with him”
