Hon. Rowland Sekibu has dismissed impeachment threats against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stating that such attempts have repeatedly failed and will not succeed.
Speaking during a session, Sekibu criticized the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing him as someone known for making baseless impeachment threats.
“The Speaker is known for impeachment threats. Check the records—he has attempted this severally and failed, including when I was governor. He was the one that moved the motion for impeachment, and he failed,” Sekibu stated.
He expressed confidence that the people of Rivers State remain solidly behind Governor Fubara, dismissing any possibility of a successful impeachment.
“We are not concerned about those threats. We know they will not come to pass; it’s just a mere threat. He will not succeed because the people of Rivers State support this administration,” he added.
Sekibu further emphasized that Rivers State has witnessed progress under Fubara’s leadership and that the ongoing political crisis should not distract from governance.
“What exactly is the problem? If someone has served, they should step aside and support the person in office. Can there be two governors at the same time? Since I was born, I have never seen two governors ruling a state at once,” he said.
He t4sgurged those opposing Fubara to set aside personal interests and allow the governor to focus on delivering good governance.
“The people of Rivers State—men, women, youths, and even non-indigenes—are solidly behind him. These threats are coming from a few individuals who do not mean well for the state,” Sekibu concluded.
