In a video posted on Symfoni TV from 9:01, the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule affirmed his commitment to upholding the Nigerian Constitution despite threats and challenges.

He emphasized that the Assembly would stand firm in ensuring the Constitution is obeyed and that the governor is held accountable to the law.

Amaewhule argued that the governor’s immunity does not exempt him from being held responsible for his actions.

This statement reflects the ongoing tensions between the legislative and executive branches of the Rivers State government and underscores the importance of adhering to constitutional norms and ensuring accountability for those in power.

According to Martin Amaewhule, “We swore to the Constitution of Nigeria to protect it, and we will not back down, despite threats. We will stand firm to ensure the Constitution is obeyed, and the governor (Fubara) is not above the law. His immunity does not mean he will escape accountability.”
