Jake Epelle, a human rights activist and founder of TAF, has spoken about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s defection to APC from PDP in Rivers State.

In an interview from 10:18 with Channels Television, Epelle said the APC rule is that the state governor automatically becomes the leader of the party in the state, which is why Fubara was given APC membership card number 001, marking him as the number one member of the party in Rivers State.

Epelle said that when Fubara got the APC membership and the top position, the political influence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in the state weakened because Wike is no longer the leader of the ruling party there.

Epelle said he does not believe the main power blocs in the APC truly want Wike to join the party. He said Wike is making himself politically irrelevant.

In Epelle’s words: “The APC rule is that the governor becomes the leader of the party in the state, that is why Fubara got the 001. The moment that happened, there was a shift in the political power dynamics which makes Wike seemingly irrelevant because he is no longer the political leader of the ruling party”
