During an interview with Channels Television, Solomon Bob spoke about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. He revealed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had fully accepted the 8-point settlement agreement proposed by the presidency in December 2023.
Bob, who was present at the meeting, explained that Fubara agreed to every term of the settlement. According to him, officials would go through each point one by one, asking the governor if he accepted it. Each time, Fubara responded with, “Yes, I accept, sir.”
At the end of the discussion, Fubara made only one request. He pleaded that none of his supporters should face victimization for backing him. President Bola Tinubu assured him that no one would be punished, and the agreement was finalized.
However, Bob claims that after the deal was signed, some people influenced Fubara to change his mind. They told him that accepting the settlement meant giving up his power as governor and that the president had no constitutional authority to enforce the agreement. This led to Fubara taking actions that went against the deal.
Bob criticized the governor’s leadership style, saying that governance requires continuous communication. However, he accused Fubara of isolating himself and refusing to engage with key political allies. He believes this lack of consultation led to the crisis in Rivers State.
