The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force (FPRO), Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has responded to a viral video showing police officers allegedly counting extorted money inside their patrol van. The video, which circulated widely on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sparked public outrage and raised questions about police conduct.
In the clip, a group of police officers is seen handling bundles of cash while seated in their patrol vehicle. The footage prompted many Nigerians to accuse the officers of extorting motorists. The video quickly gained traction online, leading to swift responses from both citizens and law enforcement authorities.
One notable response came from the Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bright Edafe. He confirmed that the officers involved had been identified and subsequently arrested pending further investigation.
Amidst the backlash, a social media user with the handle “Nopkins” speculated on a possible explanation for the money, suggesting, “What if it was an ‘ajo’ (thrift contribution) they gathered amongst themselves?” The comment referred to a common local savings practice in Nigeria, where individuals contribute to a communal fund and take turns collecting the pooled money.
This suggestion drew a response from the Nigerian Police FPRO, Adejobi. Taking to social media, he addressed the comment and called for appropriate action, writing: “Liaise with the Delta State Command and act appropriately pls. Thanks.”
Adejobi’s statement suggests that the matter will be properly investigated by the relevant authorities in Delta State. His response also indicates the seriousness with which the police hierarchy views the allegations and the importance of accountability within the force.
The incident has reignited conversations around police transparency, misconduct, and the need for internal reforms.
