Chief Bode George has defended the PDP’s zoning formula as a solution to Nigeria’s historical political problems. He explained that the party’s founding fathers created the six geopolitical zone system to ensure minority groups have equal access to leadership positions. This innovation, he argued, distinguishes PDP from failed republics that prioritized majority tribes.
Speaking on Arise News from 13:13, George recounted how the First and Second Republics collapsed because majorities dominated while minorities were mere onlookers. To prevent this pattern, PDP founders designated six key positions for rotation among geopolitical zones. These include president, vice president, Senate president, speaker, secretary to government, and party chairman.
George described this structure as brilliant and the reason he joined the PDP. He emphasized that it guarantees every Nigerian, regardless of tribal origin, will eventually benefit from top political positions. This rotation principle, he maintained, removes perpetual leadership domination and ensures inclusive governance. George expressed pride that the current generation can still access opportunities through this system.
Chief Bode George said: “So the founding fathers sat down and looked at the problems of the first republic and the second republic and the interregnum by the military. And they then divided Nigeria into six geopolitical zones and then decided also the six geopolitical positions. The president, the vice president, the Senate President, the speaker of the house, the secretary to the government and the national chairman of the party to remove the issues of perpetuating leaders and managers of this country that you as a Nigerian, no matter where you come from, whether you are minority or majority, that someday these positions, these six top position, you will benefit from it. So they had removed completely the issue of majority versus minority tribes.” View, More,
