Amidst the ongoing offensive military campaign of the Israeli regime in Gaza that resulted in the death of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, former American National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had publicly endorsed withholding weapons from Israel, revealing that he privately urged Democratic lawmakers that they should support resolutions restricting arms sales to the administration of the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu in its ongoing atrocities against Palestinians.

According to a report by the Jerusalem Post the former American National Security Advisor under the administration of the former President of US, Joe Biden, Jake Sullivan during an interview, signals growing frustration with Israel’s military actions, and could reshape American foreign policy in the Middle East, noting that the situation as it stands today, following the breakdown of the ceasefire in March, means that a vote to withhold weapons to Israel was a totally credible position.

He also stated that it was a position he would support, pointing to the current humanitarian dire situation in Gaza, which was highly attributed to the ongoing offensive military campaign of Netanyahu’s Government in the enclave, especially the recent Nasser Medical Complex strike killing twenty innocent civilians.

In his words, Jake Sullivan said “I have, in fact, told a number of members who were thinking about the votes on these resolutions that the situation as it stands today, following the breakdown of the cease-fire in March, means that a vote to withhold weapons to Israel is a totally credible position. That is a position I would support.”

The former top American diplomat, Jake Sullivan went further to express concerns about Israel’s domestic politics under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government, questioning whether Israel’s democratic character would shape future bilateral ties.
