According to a report by Vanguard on Thursday, former President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he remains a loyal member of the party that granted him two terms in office.
His statement comes amidst recent speculation about defections from the APC, including the departure of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and rumors of other high-profile figures potentially leaving the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari sought to dispel any doubts regarding his political allegiance.
The former president emphasized that he would continue to stand by the APC and contribute to its growth and success.
“former President Muhammadu Buhari reiterates that he remains a committed member of the APC and wishes to be recognized as such,” the statement read.
Buhari was firm in his message, insisting that he would never abandon the party that had supported him throughout his presidency.
The former president made it clear that his loyalty to the APC was unwavering and that he would continue to do everything within his power to promote and strengthen the party.
Buhari also expressed his deep appreciation for the support he received from the APC during his time in office, calling it the highest honor he could have received.
Meanwhile, Vanguard reported earlier that former Governor El-Rufai revealed that he consulted former President Buhari before exiting the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party.
