Former presidential candidate and former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, has reacted to a resurfaced tweet by President Bola Tinubu condemning the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
The old tweet, dated January 29, 2014, showed Tinubu criticizing the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for failing to protect Christian worshippers who were attacked during church services.
Ameh faulted Tinubu and other Nigerian leaders for what he described as their inconsistent positions on the persecution of Christians.
He pointed out that the same individuals who once spoke strongly against such attacks now deny claims of genocide against Christians under the current administration.
According to Ameh, this inconsistency undermines Nigeria’s credibility before international partners, especially the United States, which recently redesignated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom violations on November 1, 2025.
He lamented that despite his appeals to the U.S. government, explaining that Nigeria only sought technical assistance in combating terrorism, the U.S. proceeded with the designation after reviewing videos and statements including those from leaders who once condemned the killings but now appear to contradict themselves.
Ameh urged leaders to maintain integrity and consistency on sensitive national issues.
