Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has launched a scathing attack on British Conservative MP Kemi Badenoch over her recent claim that her children cannot acquire Nigerian citizenship because she is a woman.

Badenoch who currently serves as the UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, reportedly suggested that Nigerian nationality laws discriminate against women in terms of passing citizenship to their children. In response, Fani-Kayode, in a strongly worded tweet on Sunday, accused her of peddling falsehoods and harbouring contempt for Nigeria.

“Not only is this sleazy feline lying again but she is also suffering from a rare form of mental illness,” Fani-Kayode wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “She should go and read section 25 of the Nigerian constitution which allows persons whose parents or grandparents (male or female) to become citizens of Nigeria.”

He further alleged that the real reason her children do not have Nigerian citizenship is not because of any constitutional limitation but due to Badenoch’s personal choice.

“Her children can’t get Nigerian citizenship not because she is a woman or because our constitution bars them from doing so but because she does not want them to have it and because she has nothing but hate, disdain and contempt for our country,” he said.

Fani-Kayode ended the tirade with a blistering rebuke: ” leave Nigeria out of her foul-smelling, fork-tongued mouth. Enough is enough!”.

His remarks have stirred mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians supporting his defence of the constitution while others condemned the tone and language of his response. As of press time, Badenoch has not issued a reply.
