The Presidency, through Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, has released a comprehensive list of President Bola Tinubu’s appointments to date.
The publication comes amidst growing criticisms over alleged lopsided appointments in the current administration.
Interestingly, the list did not include Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, who was one of Tinubu’s earliest appointees, having been appointed on June 2, 2023.
According to Daily Post, this omission has raised further questions on the completeness of the report, especially as the South West, Gbajabiamila’s region, already tops the list with 29 appointees—five more than the 24 originally claimed by Dare.
According to the document, appointments are heavily concentrated in the South West and North, particularly in high-profile positions.
The South East lags behind in terms of representation, further fueling regional discontent.
The South West boasts key positions such as the CBN Governor, Chief of Army Staff, and several ministerial and special advisory roles.
Meanwhile, the North West and North East also have significant influence with appointments in defence, finance, and national intelligence.
Critics argue that the appointments reflect a bias toward the President’s regional base, especially as the South East and South South are underrepresented in ‘juicy’ or strategic portfolios.
Despite the controversies, the Presidency maintains that appointments were made on merit and competence, not ethnicity or political alignment.
However, the discrepancies, including Gbajabiamila’s omission and the uneven distribution, continue to stir debate over inclusivity and fairness in governance.
The full list, categorized by geopolitical zones, includes ministers, heads of key federal agencies, and special advisers across different sectors.
More reactions are expected as scrutiny of Tinubu’s administration intensifies amid the push for equity and national unity.
