Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has responded to the comments made by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, regarding the recent killings in Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. General Musa had claimed that some people in the community helped the attackers by giving them shelter, food, and even women before they carried out the attack.

However, in a report by Punch on June 23, 2025 Falana said that the statement made by the Defence Chief General Musa was a way of avoiding the real issue, which is the government’s failure to protect its citizens. He said blaming innocent people who just lost their loved ones and homes was unfair and wrong.

Falana called on the government and security agencies to focus on arresting the attackers and preventing future violence. Falana describe General Musa’s statement as a “diversionary way of blaming the victims of official incompetence and negligence.”
