According to Daily Post, renowned activist Omoyele Sowore has praised former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, for firmly holding her ground in a heated verbal exchange with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi. The confrontation, captured in a viral video, took place during a Senate Ethics Committee hearing on sexual harassment allegations involving suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The clash, which unfolded on Tuesday, saw Ezekwesili and Nwebonyi engage in a tense back-and-forth, with the former minister reportedly calling out the senator’s conduct. In response, Nwebonyi accused Ezekwesili of disrespect and claimed she labeled him a “hooligan” before telling him to “shut up.”

Reacting to the incident, Sowore took to his official Facebook page on Wednesday, where he criticized Nwebonyi’s behavior, calling it an example of the Senate’s inefficiency. He went further to suggest that the upper legislative chamber was a “waste of resources” and should be abolished.

“Look at this individual’s behavior and explain to me why the Nigerian Senate should not be scrapped,” Sowore wrote. “It is clearly a waste of resources to send unproductive representatives to a rubber-stamp assembly. I commend Oby Ezekwesili for not backing down.”

The altercation has sparked widespread discussions about the credibility and effectiveness of Nigeria’s legislative body, with many applauding Ezekwesili’s fearless stance while others debate the future of the Senate’s role in governance.
