In a recent statement shared on his official X account, Kalu Aja, a well-known financial analyst and educator, has expressed disappointment over the behavior of Nigeria’s executive officials during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent trip to France.

Aja criticized the practice of government executives gathering to see the president off and welcome him back from trips and described this as a waste of time and an indication of misplaced priorities.

“President travels out: Ministers leave their office and gather.

President travels back: Ministers leave their office and gather.

All Presidents and Heads of State have done this. It simply shows these executives do not value their time.

Waste is not just with money; it also with time.

This gathering of executives is a waste of time,” Kalu Aja wrote.

He further stated that inefficiency in governance is not limited to financial waste but also includes time mismanagement.

The practice of government officials gathering to send off or receive the president has been a long-standing tradition in Nigeria, however, it has frequently drawn criticism for being ceremonial and unproductive, especially at a time when the country faces pressing economic and governance challenges.

Aja’s comments reflect growing concerns among Nigerians about how their leaders prioritize their duties.
