In an interview on the Lucky Udu Experience from 14:48, retired Staff Sergeant Nwosu Florence Onuabuchi, who served the Nigerian Army for 31 years, spoke about the ongoing fight against Boko Haram and banditry, revealing why security challenges persist despite the efforts of soldiers on the frontlines.
She said the Nigerian military is fully committed to ending these threats, but internal sabotage and interference within the system often undermine operations. According to Florence, some individuals in the military and other security agencies provide information or indirectly support bandits, making it impossible for soldiers to succeed completely.
Florence explained that soldiers are not just professionally motivated but often have personal reasons for their dedication. Many join the army after losing relatives to terrorists and are willing to risk their lives to protect the country. However, she noted, even the most courageous soldiers face frustration when those entrusted to support them act against national security.
She argued that no matter how well-trained the troops are or how modern their equipment is, success cannot be achieved unless internal weaknesses are addressed. Removing those who compromise operations is essential for the army to operate effectively and protect civilians.
Florence emphasized that the military’s determination is evident on the ground, with soldiers prepared to face danger at all times. She warned that as long as interference continues from within, the fight against Boko Haram and bandits will remain incomplete.
“The military are really willing to work hard to stop this issue of Boko Haram or bandits. But we have supporters inside the military, and it will not be possible to stop. The only way to stop it is if those people remove their hands from aiding and abetting the bandits. Our soldiers are willing to fight. Some people joined the army because bandits killed their family.” View, More,
