Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday, criticized senators who had urged former Chief of Defence Staff and Defence Minister nominee Christopher Musa to simply “bow and go” during his ministerial screening.

According to Daily Post, he pointed out that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, was exerting pressure on Nigeria, and argued that for this reason Musa needed to undergo a thorough and substantive interrogation.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Akpabio stated that there were many issues that required clear answers, especially concerning the country’s security challenges.

During Musa’s screening, the session became rowdy as some senators insisted that his earlier responses were sufficient and that he should be allowed to bow and leave.

Akpabio, however, disagreed with this approach and accused the lawmakers of attempting to bring politics into the screening process.

According to Akpabio: “This is not the time for politics of ‘bow and go’. Even Donald Trump is on our neck. We’ve not asked him what his response will be to Donald Trump.

He argued that it was inappropriate for senators to request a “bow and go” from someone nominated to serve as Minister of Defence when Nigerians still had numerous unanswered questions and more than 200 children remained in captivity and were being mistreated.

He said the nominee should be given the chance to address these concerns and offer the country some hope. View, More,
