Lucky Okoro, a Keke (tricycle) driver from Aba, Nigeria, has shared his remarkable story of finding and returning ₦4 million that a passenger left in his vehicle. Despite being called a “fool” and a “mumu” (a Nigerian pidgin term for a stupid person) by many for his honesty, Okoro stood by his decision, driven by his faith and a deep sense of what was right.
In an interview on the Lucky Udu Experience, Okoro recounted the moment he discovered a carpenter’s bag full of cash in the back of his Keke. His first thought was to find the owner, a decision that put him at odds with a society where many believe that “finder’s keepers” is the rule, especially when such a life-changing amount of money is involved.
He said, “Everybody on the internet is calling this man a very foolish man because he saw ₦4 million in his Keke and he decided to return it back to the owner. Although many people say that I am foolish, like they call me ‘mumu,’ that is a fool, for doing such a thing, but I’m not a mumu. One of them asked me, ‘See the old Keke that you are driving, every day you are going to the mechanic. Why can’t you use that money and buy a new one?’ I said, ‘No, it’s not my own money.’”
