Enemi George, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has raised the alarm over a looming constitutional crisis in the state. In an interview with Channels Television From 23:00, George highlighted the far-reaching implications of the Appeal Court judgment that nullified all actions taken by the three suspended members of the Assembly.

According to George, the judgment has created a vacuum in the state government, as all commissioners screened by the suspended members are no longer recognized by law. This includes the Accountant General, leaving the state without a legitimate chief financial officer.

The crisis also extends to local governments, where caretaker committees have been outlawed, leaving a leadership vacuum. George warned that this situation has created a dangerous constitutional crisis, exacerbated by the absence of a budget and legitimate commissioners.

The lawmaker’s warning comes as the state government faces intense pressure to resolve the political and administrative impasse. The situation has sparked concerns among residents and stakeholders, who fear that the crisis may undermine the state’s development and stability.

In his words;

“The Appeal Court Judgement has also said that everything that was done by the other three members, the three suspended members is null and void. It means that in the eyes of the Law, it never existed, so it means that all the commissioners that were screened by that Assembly do not exist in the eyes of the law. It means that as I speak, River State Government does not have an Account General. It means that there’s a vacuum in our various Local Governments because the issue of the Caretaker Committees has been outlawed and even on top of that, the suspended members cannot go and screen a group of people and say they’re Caretaker Committees.

“So what it means is that there’s a huge vacuum. in our Local Government, we have a vacuum. At the State Government, we’ve a dangerous vacuum. We don’t have a budget, we don’t have commissioners. The only commissioners we’ve as I speak were the commissioners that we’re screened by this illegitimate assembly and so we’ve a constitutional crisis building”…..Seë_Morë
