In an interview on TVC News from 2:01, a survivor of a recent bandit attack in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has shared a vivid account of her narrow escape, shedding light on the ordeal that left three people dead and 38 others abducted. The attack occurred last Tuesday when worshippers returning from the Christ Apostolic Church were ambushed by armed men.
The victims were held captive for six days before being rescued. Following the incident, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed a team from the Intelligence Response Unit of the Federal Investigation Department at Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, to investigate the attack and track down the perpetrators.
The police team, led by ASP Ibo Sam, has been interviewing survivors, community members, and church leaders to gather crucial information on how the attack unfolded. Authorities say the testimonies are helping them reconstruct the sequence of events and identify potential escape routes used by the bandits.
Residents described the attack as sudden and coordinated, with the assailants positioning themselves in ways that restricted the movement of the worshippers. One survivor, who managed to slip away during the chaos, recounted the challenges she faced navigating through darkness and unfamiliar terrain before reaching safety.
She explained:
“I just stayed in that bush. All of them passed by. They passed by. They were talking. But they did not know, because it was already dark, that one woman had escaped. I slept in that bush throughout the midnight. In the morning, I started looking for a way out because I could not remember the road.
