According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated his country’s unwavering commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, declaring that it “will definitely be realized” along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Speaking on Wednesday, Oct. 8, during a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in Ankara, Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s long-standing position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stressing that justice, peace, and stability in the Middle East are unattainable without the full recognition of Palestinian statehood.

“Just as our Syrian brothers and sisters have regained their freedom, a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, will surely be established,” Erdogan said.

He criticized what he described as the international community’s one-sided expectations of Palestinians and Hamas in achieving peace, arguing that such an approach is both unjust and impractical. “Peace is not a one-winged bird,” he said. “Placing the entire responsibility for peace on Hamas and the Palestinians is neither fair, nor right, nor realistic.”

The Turkish leader condemned Israel’s continued military operations in the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate end to hostilities. “If there is a genuine desire for peace, then Israel’s attacks must stop without delay,” he insisted.

Erdogan outlined Türkiye’s multi-dimensional strategy for addressing the ongoing crisis, emphasizing that Ankara’s efforts extend beyond political statements to include humanitarian assistance, diplomatic engagement, trade policies, and support for international recognition of Palestine. “A ceasefire and a just peace are the most reasonable paths forward for all parties,” he said.

He noted that ongoing negotiations in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh hold “critical importance” for advancing peace efforts, expressing hope that the talks will yield positive outcomes. “We are following developments closely and hope to receive encouraging news soon,” he added.

Erdogan also commended Hamas for its engagement in diplomatic efforts, claiming that the group had shown openness to peace proposals, including those put forward by Washington. “Hamas has responded positively to President Donald Trump’s peace plan, showing its readiness for dialogue,” he said, emphasizing Türkiye’s support for all credible peace initiatives aimed at ending decades of conflict in the region.
