US congressman, Rep. Riley M. Moore of West Virginia has expressed deep concern over the latest mass abduction in Nigeria, following reports that gunmen attacked St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger state overnight and kidnapped more than 50 students and teachers. Posting on his official X handle on Friday, November 21, 2025, Moore described the incident as “Heartbreaking.” He added, “St Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria was attacked overnight with more than 50 students and teachers being kidnapped. Enough is enough. We must do everything we can to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ.”

The lawmaker’s reaction followed international media reports, including a bulletin shared by FOX & Friends citing Reuters, which confirmed that armed men stormed the school and forcefully took students away in the early hours of the day. According to the broadcast, “Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped at least 50 students from a Catholic school in Nigeria.” The update also linked the attack to rising concerns over religious-targeted violence, noting that it came shortly after the United States designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” in efforts to address global Christian persecution.
