According to a report by the Punch News on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Emmanuel Otache, whose family, wife and children, died in a building collapse at Magodo, revealed that he relocated back to his village, Opaha, after the incident happened, then his village was attacked by herdsmen who started shooting and burning houses from 3pm till 11pm.

Otache shared his heartbreaking story, saying he returned to his village, Opaha, in Benue State, after the building collapse that claimed his wife and children but found no solace. In 2023, herdsmen attacked, leaving 95 dead, including his parents, uncles, and siblings. He lost loved ones all over again.

He recounted the traumatic experience, saying the attack started around 3 p.m. His uncle shielded him, locking him in the kitchen and covering him with a tarpaulin. The attackers continued shooting and burning houses for 8 hours. The security personnel arrived at 4 a.m., and he was mistaken for dead under the tarpaulin but was found breathing faintly.
